Brubaker to Hold Media Availability, Announcing Plans to Unveil Farm Safety Bill

For Immediate Release

Addressing Responsible Reporting Versus Agriculture Trespassing

HARRISBURG – Senator Mike Brubaker (R-36) will hold a media availability in Room 168/Main Capitol Building today at 2:30 p.m. to announce plans to introduce “Responsible Reporting” legislation, a bill that includes components from a previous proposal he has sponsored pertaining to farm trespassing issues combined with an immunity clause contingent upon a reporting requirement.

A number of states have proposed legislation that would criminalize the taking of photographs or video on farming operations without the consent of the owner in order to protect farmers from undercover investigations by animal rights groups.  However while Brubaker understands the need for protection of law-abiding farmers, he does not support the inhumane treatment of animals.  His proposal will address a reporting process as it relates to farm and animal safety.
