PennDOT Announces Acceptance of Applications for Next Round of Multimodal Grant Funding

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that it will begin accepting applications on October 3, 2015, for funding transportation improvement projects under the Multimodal Transportation Fund.

“When we were developing Act 89 of 2013, the state’s historic transportation funding bill, we recognized the importance and need of promoting multimodal investments,” said Senator John Rafferty, Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee.  “The Multimodal Transportation Fund is an innovative, sustainable funding alternative to improve transit, aviation, rail freight, bicycle and pedestrian alternatives and other transportation-related projects in this Commonwealth.”

PennDOT will evaluate the applications and make selections based on such criteria as safety benefits, regional economic conditions, the technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency and operational sustainability.

PennDOT has $40 million in grants available for fiscal year 2016-17.  Applications are due by December 18, 2015.  PennDOT expects to announce grant recipients early next year for the funding that becomes available in July 2016.

“I am impressed by the level of interest in the Multimodal Transportation Fund that is transforming how we invest more wisely in an interconnected transportation system that creates jobs and strengthens economic growth in Pennsylvania,” remarked Senator Rafferty.
