Senate Education Committee to Hold Second Public Hearing on Common Core Standards

Invites Pennsylvanians to Submit Hearing Questions On-line

HARRISBURG – Senator Mike Folmer, chairman of the Senate Education Committee, announced the committee will hold a second public hearing on Common Core as it relates to the proposed Pennsylvania Core Standards. The hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Thursday, August 29, in Hearing Room One of the State Capitol’s North Office Building. The committee held its first hearing on the issue in May.

Folmer said the hearing will concentrate on getting answers to Common Core questions from the state Department of Education and the Pennsylvania State Board of Education. To gather questions, Folmer invites Pennsylvanians to submit questions surrounding Common Core through his website,, and click-on the “Education Committee” tab. Senator Folmer and other committee members will then pose the inquires to Department officials at the hearing. Questions must be submitted by Wednesday, August 21.


Editor’s Note– On August 5, 2013, the State Board of Education released proposed revisions to the Chapter 4 regulations that, among other things, changes the name from Pennsylvania Common Core Standards to Pennsylvania Core Standards.
